“EDGC will gain global attention and we will become the company committed to promoting healthy lifestyle around the world.”
EDGC won the SME Gold Prize at the 1st Korea Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Awards hosted by NewsPim June 19. The company was recognized for its technology for analyzing genetic information.
EDGC is a Korea-U.S. joint venture established by Korea EONE Laboratories and U.S. Diagnomics in 2013. The company provides services to predict the risk of various cancer and other diseases by analyzing genetic data using next-generation sequencing (NGS).
NGS is an analytical method of reading the entire genetic information. NGS has reduced the time for genome analysis from 15 years to 3 years, and the costs from $3 billion to $1,000.
EDGC is building disease-predictive and preventive service line-up that covers the entire life cycle based on genome analysis obtained from NGS.
The company is currently providing prenatal testing 'NICE’ for screening fetal aneuploidies, newborn genetic testing 'bebegene', and breast cancer predictive testing 'BRCARE’.
In addition, in line with the company’s goal of helping people live healthier based on genetic information, EDGC is expanding its business scope to personalized and specialized services.
The company also has services such as ‘MYGENPLAN,’ which provides customized health management by analyzing individual’s genetic risk and current health conditions, genetic testing for inherited eye disease ‘MYEYEGENE’, and genetic testing for cancer and common diseases ‘Gene2me Plus’.
EDGC’s sales prove that the company’s technological prowess has gained competitiveness in the market. The company’s sales have grown more than 16 fold in two years: from 1.4 billion won in 2016, 3.2 billion won in 2017, to 21 billion won last year.
The rapid growth of EDGC is also drawing attention abroad. The company is working on business projects in partnership with world-leading companies such as Illumina.
Lee Min Seob, co-CEO of EDGC, said, “It’s an honor to be awarded gold award. EDGC will attract much attention from global market as the company delivering value of healthy living by way of bringing personal genome-based customized services closer to real life.”
